Many cars were selected in this race, and they were given their positions. This time there was a lot of drama and thrill to see in Le Mans 2025 qualifying. In which every class, be it Hypercar, LMP2, or LMGT3, all had a tremendous battle. The biggest thing is that Cadillac achieved a historic milestone in the Le Mans 2025 hyperpole round.

So let's know today in this blog post what the result of Le Mans 2025 qualifying was, how each class performed, and what the key moments were.

New Qualifying Format for Le Mans 2025

This time, the Le Mans qualifying round was significantly more engaging. This time a new format of Le Mans 2025 hyperpole was followed. This format is mostly used for Formula 1 races. The qualifying round was of 2 days, in which a session of 30 minutes was held on the first day, i.e., 11 June 2025, in which a race was held for the Hypercar Category and a combined session of 30 minutes was held for LMP2 and LMGT3. The selection process included the top 15 Hypercars, 12 LMP2 cars, and 12 LMGT3 cars. These cars were now sent for the next round on 12 June.

The concept of Le Mans 2025 hyperpole was used on 12 June. There were a total of 2 rounds in this; the first round was Hyperpole 1 (H1), in which further trimming was done among the total 39 cars. After this, Hyperpole 2 (H1) was conducted among the remaining cars, and in this, all the cars were given positions for the main race according to their speed and position. It was simple: the one who came out on top in H2 was given the pole position.

This concept increased the excitement and competition during the Le Mans 2025 qualifying, and it also led to proper selections. Additionally, it was crucial that each team used different drivers for both H1 and H2.

Hypercar Class: Cadillac’s Historic 1-2 Pole Lockout

Cadillac created history in the second hyperpole round of Le Mans 2025 qualifying. They won the pole position in qualifying, and they also won the two remaining front- row positions. If they don't let anyone come to the front on race day, it won't be hard for them to stay in the lead.

#12 Cadillac – Pole Position Winner

  • Driver: Alex Lynn
  • Co-drivers: Norman Nato & Will Stevens
  • Team: Jota-run Cadillac V-Series.R
  • Lap Time: 3:23.166 (This was the fastest lap time in H2.)

It was just 0.167 seconds away from second position. If the lap time had been even slightly slower, it would have missed pole position; however, it was certain that the Cadillac team would have secured second position as well. A member of the #38 Cadillac was behind the wheel.

#38 Cadillac—it achieved second position.

  • Driver: Jenson Button
  • Co-drivers: Earl Bamber, Alex Palou
  • Team: Jota-run Cadillac V-Series.R
  • Lap time: 3:23.333

This pure Cadillac showed dominance in the Le Mans 24 Hours 2025 qualifying round. By taking both pole positions, they confirmed 1-2 positions for themselves. The result is a very big advantage for the Cadillac team from the perspective of the race.

Other cars' performance in Le mans 24 hours 2025 qualifying

The car that performed better after the Cadillac was the #5 Porsche Penske Motorsport. It achieved the third position with its driver Mathieu Jaminet. Although he performed well, he could not beat Cadillac; otherwise, he would have secured the second position.

Apart from this, there were some expectations that many cars did not fulfill, meaning fans were disappointed. The first name in this is Ferrari. It was already considered a favorite in the race as it dominated the WEC 2025 season. But this time no one could match it in Le Mans 2025 qualifying. The best-performing car of Ferrari was #50 AF Corse 499P, which achieved 7th position. Due to just 0.1 seconds, Ferrari could not get a place in the top 6 positions. Now it will start at the 7th position. But its driver, Alessandro Pier Gudi, is an experienced and talented driver, so he still has a chance to win Le Mans because anything can happen here in 24 hours.

The Toyota cars faced significant challenges in securing pole position for this race. #8 Toyota, whose driver is Sébastien Buemi, made a mistake, due to which it will now start the race from 9th position. The mistake was that they could not set the lap time at Mulsanne Corner. The other Toyota car, #7, whose driver and co-drivers were Nyck de Vries, Mike Conway, and Kamui Kobayashi, also could not qualify for Le Mans 2025 pole 2 and had to finish in 17th position.

The biggest twist in this tale is that the #6 Porsche Penske 963 was disqualified from Le Mans. The #6 Porsche Penske 963 was sent straight to last in the hypercar grid because it was lighter than the minimum weight required by the car rules. This disqualification gave an advantage to the #009 Aston Martin Valkyrie, which was promoted in the hyperpole. But still their performance was not that outstanding, and they remained in the last position.

LMP2 Class: TDS Racing Takes Pole

TDS Racing's #29 car gave the best performance in the LMP2 class of Le Mans 2025 qualifying. It achieved pole position. Their opponents were #43 Inter Europol Competition and #22 and #23 United Autosports, who competed tough, but TDS did not let them get ahead.

Despite two red flags during the Hyperpole session, TDS maintained its speed. The first red flag came when the #150 Richard Mille AF Corse Oreca crashed. As a result, the race time was again reduced, due to which the racers did not get much time, but TDS still gave the best lap time.

LMGT3 Class: Heart of Racing Aston Martin Shines.

The #27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin delivered the best performance in the LMGT3 class at the Le Mans 2025 qualifying round, securing pole position in the class. Its driver was Mattia Drudi, a platinum-rated one. He started with so much speed that he overtook the second number 21 Vista AF Corse Ferrari by 0.25 seconds, which is difficult for almost any car to cover in motorsport. MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi finished in 3rd position. The victory was a special moment, as Rossi is a silver-rated driver, and he defeated even the gold- and platinum-rated drivers.

Key Moments and Surprises

1) Cadillac's surprise 1-2 lockout

Cadillac secured both 1st and 2nd positions in the new format of Le Mans 24 Hours 2025 qualifying; this was a big shock for everyone. People anticipated that Ferrari, having excelled in the WEC, would also secure the pole position in this event, but this did not transpire. Along with this, Porsche had secured the pole position in 2024, which means last year it could not do anything this time.

2) Porsche's Disqualification

#6 Porsche, which many fans expected, had qualified, but one mistake disqualified it and threw it straight to the end of the grid. Porsche's car was short as per the weight standard of the race. But Aston Martin took advantage of this mistake, which earlier did not qualify in the hypercar class; it was made to qualify in place of Porsche.

3) Ferrari and Toyota's struggle

This time Ferrari's single-lap speed was disappointing. Due to which its performance was not special. Toyota also could not give any special performance; it could not even set a lap time in hyperpole. Seeing all this, fans also got frustrated, and now everyone's eyes are on whether their future performance will be good or not.

4) Rossi's star performance

This was a bit unpredictable, because what the team could not do despite having golden- and platinum-rated, i.e., full-experience, racers, Rossi did it despite being a silver-plated racer. He achieved third position in the LMGT3 class with his #46 WRT BMW. The finish was also a very impressive moment for Le Mans qualifying.

5) Success of New Hyperpole Format

Every year, Le Mans takes place, but this year saw the introduction of a new format. In which all the classes were different, and for each race, the 'Le Mans 2025 hyperpole format' was played according to different drivers. This happened for the first time in Le Mans qualifying, and this format was appreciated by many racers, and only a few selected people found it confusing and complex. But overall this format was successful, and the qualifying process went smoothly.

What’s Next for Le Mans 2025?

As per Schedule, the race will start on 14 June 2025, Saturday evening at 4:00 PM CEST. Le Mans 2025 qualifying has already taken place, and Cadillac has achieved pole position in the Hypercar class. Many experienced racers were unable to show their power in qualifying. But this is a 24-hour race; anything can happen in it. It is not necessary that only the team will win by coming on pole position, because strategy, reliability of the car, and mental and physical strength of the driver also matter in the race.

Teams such as Ferrari, Toyota, and Porsche, who have not only failed to secure pole position in qualifying but also have experience in long-distance endurance, can win the game at any time. The qualifying round of LMP2 and LMGT3 is also very close; tight competition can be seen in their battle as well.

Fans can watch it live at the race location and on live TV channels as well. Just as you will get full coverage on FIA WEC TV, live coverage can be seen on Eurosport (Europe), Max (USA), and Stan Sport (Australia)—all these channels according to different regions.

Why Does Le Mans 2025 Qualifying Matter?

Le Mans 24 Hours 2025 qualifying does not only decide the starting grid of a team, but it can also be used to estimate which team is in form and on top. Now, as Cadillac secured pole positions 1-2 in the Le Mans 2025 qualifying results, it gives an indication of how strong a contender this team is. But there is one thing in this that cannot be ignored, and that is its 24-hour format. Le Mans 24 Hours is run continuously; there can be no prediction as to who will come out on top and when. Therefore, qualifying does not declare the winner, but it does reveal the strengths and strategies of the contenders.

It's just the beginning; there are a lot of interesting things to watch during the 24-hour duration of Le Mans. As the race takes place at night, the drivers face difficulty in driving the cars, as sometimes the speed is too much. And the rainy season has almost started now; if it rains by mistake, then it becomes difficult for the cars to get a grip on the track. And apart from this, any mechanical issue, tire puncture, or even engine problem can arise in the cars within 24 hours. So it will be a different kind of fun to watch the race in between all these challenges.

So the race will start on Circuit de la Sarthe on 14 June at 4:00 PM CET. Users who want to watch the race live at home should turn on the TV and sit 15 minutes in advance so that they do not miss it, and people going to the stadium should book their tickets online in advance.
