Stage 5: Caen to Caen (July 9, 33 km, Individual Time Trial)

This is the first big race for all GC contenders who dream of winning the overall race. It is almost a 33 km long track, completely flat and straight. Here, what matters the most is speed and power. The one who is fastest to win will win the race.

In such stages, most of the focus is on the "rouleurs." These riders are known for their powerful cycling, and one notable example is Remco Evenepoel. He is an expert in this type of power cycling.

In 2025, Remco Evenepoel also emerged victorious, albeit with a slightly longer time. That's why Tadej Pogačar won the Yellow Jersey because his overall timing was better than Remco's. And according to the rules, not the one who wins but the one whose overall timing is the best is considered the Yellow Jersey, or, in simple language, the leader.

What does H3 Time Trial mean?

In a time trial, every rider races alone. It is a race against time, not against any team or group. In this, the top 3 cyclists who win get bonus seconds as rewards. For example, the one who comes first gets 10 seconds, the second gets 6, and the third gets 4 seconds. These bonus seconds are the key to becoming a leader. That's why the GC contenders in this race give their utmost effort. Extra seconds boost their chances of victory.

What is expected in this stage?

Time trial specialists are expected to challenge us with their skills. Because this is their strong area, they try to gain the most time for themselves.

Currently, there are two riders who fit this description: Tadej Pogačar and Jonas Vingegaard, both of whom will strategically enter the race to secure their overall positions.

These many crucial stages will prove who can be the top favorite of this season's Tour de France 2025.
